The Village of Harwood Heights, Ill., has repealed and replaced its vacant property registration requirement with a component to register properties within 10 days of default or vacancy. The ordinance became effective on May 9, 2019.

Wilmington, DE
The City of Wilmington, Del., is currently conducting information meetings to raise support for a number of proposed housing code changes. Included is a registration fee increase for properties that remain vacant for more than three years and a registration requirement for buildings that are vacant for six consecutive months instead of 45 consecutive days. The first meeting took place on June 26, 2019 and the second will take place on June 27.

The City of Frederick, Md.'s Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC 11) has recommended the creation of a vacant property registration ordinance to prevent buildings from reaching the threshold of receivership action.
